Five Reasons NOT to Look For a Job This Holiday Season

For those who feel like giving up, and don't mind listening to the guy in the red jumper and pitch fork in their heads, here are the reasons that you've heard NOT to seek new employment this holiday season. You should continue to try but this is my last chance before Xmas to motivate you to do otherwise.

  1. People in the office will disregard your call. Likely an employer will ignore the phone. Then again, the work place is the slowest for the Xmas holiday, and if they answer the phone, they may pontificate about their great holiday.  Surely you don't want that.
  2. A great resume will probably be ignored. After all, many have given up for the holiday, and a well written resume might get an extra look or two.
  3. Re-writing your resume is a waste of time. Especially considering #2.
  4. Networking will be fruitless. All of those people in a great mood, and more open to meaningful and conversation than any holiday in the year. You missed your opportunity Thanksgiving.
  5. Good time for reading. Stay home out of the cold, and out of the hustle and bustle. Read a book and stay away from the computer so you won't be tempted to tweak your resume and cover letter.
